SOMETHING’S COOKING: Couple gets into Thanksgiving spirit at Chester Fine Foods & Confections

A restaurant in New Haven is still helping families find last minute solutions for Thanksgiving dinner. Fred and Patty Walker are the owners of Chestnut Fine Foods & Confections over the past 38 years. It’s easy to say food is their love language! “Many of our customers have become very dear friends of ours over the years,” said Fred. For the couple, Thanksgiving rush is kind of like preparing to feed a small army of people you love, but they do it in style. Through a husband-and-wife division of labor, Fred is the master baker. Any way it’s sliced, his breads are a home run made from scratch with hand rolled dough. For anyone with a sweet tooth, Fred’s pies are unmatched. His famous mile high apple pie is the top seller! “This is all freshly sliced granny smith apples,” said Fred. “We don’t take anything out of a can.” Patty is beyond passionate making sure every meal including the sides are topped notch. The pumpkin butternut squash ravioli is uniquely delicious. Vegetarians swoon over the lovely stuffed acorn squash. And the sweet potato apple combo is perfect! Patty’s proud her family is part of so many special feasts. “We’ve made so many friends through our customers its remarkable,” said Patty.
